US ARMY AIR CORPS as an Aviation Cadet and graduated from Bombardier school as a 2nd Lt. Sept 1944 where he remained as an instructor. He was later assigned to a B-29 crew, which he loved. Serving in the 73rd Bomb Wing on Saipan, Mariana Island, he flew 13 combat missions against the Japanese Empire and was a part of the fly-over during the Japanese Surrender Ceremony in Tokyo Bay. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor.
