Thomas Dute served aboard the destroyer USS Yarnall with the 7th Fleet in the Western Pacific. Took part in Operation Beacon Hill, the largest postwar amphibious assault to be held in the Pacific (at the time) and later joined the Formosa Patrol The USS Yarnall visited Honolulu,; Yokosuka, Japan; and Buckner Bay, Okinawa. Awarded the China Service Medal. Transferred to Reserves after active duty.
